The Mayfield Guest House - Access Statement

Introduction

We are a semi detatched victorian building in the quiet and attractive seaside resort of Seaburn in Sunderland. We are approximately 500m in from the sea front itself. Access by road is very easy, and several bus services run very close(400m) from the City Centre. The nearest Metro station (local light rail) is 1 mile away. We attempt to be accessible to a wide a range of guest as is possible, and are glad to discuss any requests any guest may have.

Pre-Arrival

• There are 4 bus services from the nearest bus stops (approx. 300m) going into Sunderland City centre (2 miles)/local Metro station(3/4 mile)/South Shields(4 miles). Local taxi firm provides accessible cabs(0191-5555555-Station Taxis).Sunderland Train station has a taxi rank outside.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• Off road car park (cemented).Reserved car spaces on request. Assistance available on arrival (by request). Pavement access to car park.(No kerb). Rear access to parked vehicles from car park. Guide/Hearing dogs allowed. Main access has 2 steps from car park to main entrance,(with handrail either side).
• Rear access is a flat concrete route and step free from car park (approx 20m) with small door frame rise (ramp available).
• Front access is via 2 steps-depth 19cm width110cm-with handrail either side. Surface from car park to front access is level and concrete.

Main Entrance & Reception

• Once in the main entrance there is level floor access to all ground floor areas which include 5 en-suite rooms, breakfast room and reception/check out desk. Rear access door(76cm) is to same ground floor area and has no steps or ramps once inside. Handrails are installed along rear corridor (width 100cm) to breakfast room from rooms 7,8,9,10.All ground floor areas are carpeted. Narrowest doors are 71cm.
• Lighting is overhead strip light in rear corridor dining area and halogen lights in reception, regular lamps and overhead bulbs in front corridor. Assistance will be given as required. Portable loop available. Pen and pad available. Additional keys available. One chair in front hall/entrance. Familiarisation tour available.
• Front doors into main entrance are Outer porch 79cm, Main door 100cm (with door code), inner threshold door 77cm with 15cm threshold rise.
• Access is 24 hour with door code access or key access for rear door. Owners live on the premises and are available for assistance on request.
• Front handrails are wooden and are 95cm height, dark wood colour ,rear hallway handrails are 90cm height and the length of the corridor is 8m colour is light pine. Reception height is 93cm.
• Service dogs allowed (no bedding, food, walking, bowls).
• Front hall to reception is 8m long and 172cm wide and contains one chair, reception area is 100cm by 187cm. Two fire doors lead from reception - one into dining room and one into front hallway. No lifts. Stairs to 1st floor are 20 steps height 15cm width 97cm. Colour contrast between door frames, walls and skirting boards. Reception has mirrors on all surrounding walls.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

• We have 2 floors accessible to guests, ground and 1st floors. There are 5 bedrooms on the ground floor and 5 on the 1st floor. All areas are carpeted, except shower rooms in room 4and 5 (1st floor)and rooms 8 and 9 (ground floor) which have vinyl. Lighting is uniform in corridors and rooms.Lamps also in front hallway.
• Teletext available in some rooms please request if needed. All doors in corridors are fire doors made of wood with viewing wired glass windows, which need manually opening by hand grips or pushing hand plates in one direction. Room doors are lockable with a key and handle. WCs are in bedrooms one communal WC and shower on 1st floor for use of rooms 2 and 6.

• We have no WC for public areas.

Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Lounges, Take Away & Cafe

• Breakfast room lighting is overhead strip light. Carpeted. Movable tables seating 2 or 4 (removable armless wooden open backed chairs) Seating for 20 total tables 7.Two of 4 seater tables have no central column. Menu is in larger plain font and can be read to guests if required. All diets catered for with 24 hour notice. All areas and rooms are non smoking. Waitress service/assistance available.

Laundry

• We do a laundry service on request (washing and drying).Local laundrette nearby does a service wash plus ironing if required.

Bedrooms

• We have 5 ground floor bedrooms one of which has been made more suitable for wheelchair users.
• GROUND FLOOR ROOMS
• Room 1 twin en-suite with shower and bath (shower is within the bath) off front hallway near main entrance.
• Room 7 double en-suite with shower. Rear extension
• Room 8 double en-suite with shower. Rear extension
• Room 9 Twin en-suite with shower( most wheelchair friendly).Rear extension
• Room 10 twin en-suite with shower. Rear extension.
• Single beds are 60cm high 100cm wide and 190cm long.
  We have 1 flashing /vibrating fire alarm available. In an emergency every effort is made to assist guests with mobility restictions to evacuate the building. We have a fire detection and alarm system fitted to BS standards. We have a portable flashing light door bell. Bed/chair raisers and toilet raiser avialable, hand grips for toilet and sink in room 9,shower stool available and shower handgrips in room 1 and 9.All entrances are flat. Cordless kettles available, with side fill levels. Fridge use in main kitchen on ground floor is available. Rooms have contrasting bedding to carpets and walls. Breakfast in rooms is possible on request.

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC (Ensuite or Shared)

• Rooms 7,8,9,10,ensuite shower rooms are 170cmx160cm,with shower inside at 84cm x 76cm,shower door 60cm,with step rise of 29cm.Floor surface is vinyl in rooms 8 and 9, carpeted in 1,7,and 10.Room doors are 69cm wide with locking door handles(lever) (knob in room 1) Sinks are 78cm high, toilets are 40cm high. Tiles in 7,8,9,10 are beige, suites are ivory.
• Vertical and horizontal handrails in bathroom in room 9. Showers have thermostatic mixers, twist taps controls.
• Bath in room 1 is 55cm height at side entry. Tiles are grey, suite is white, with hand grips on shower and sides actually on the bath itself. Shower/bath seat available.

• Evacuation procedures will be explained on arrival. Service dogs allowed. No smoking policy.
